It is that beautiful first Monday of the month which means you're receiving a little goodness wrapped up in email form. Maybe a nice break from all the junk and BS spam. If nothing else, at least you get a new playlist with some different music to listen to from this newsletter, right? I'm okay with that (:
The last few months' newsletters have been lengthy. Sheesh- I hope you didn't mind! I always love and appreciate hearing from some of you with your thoughts on the newsletter. I guess I've had a lot to say and to be honest with you all, I've been in such a creative state of mind. I don't take this to be a bad thing, and I'm super grateful for creativity; however, I've found myself living in the future a bit more than I'd like to admit. Ya'll know daydreaming right? That's kind of what I mean.
Presence and patience.
Patience and presence.
I've been reciting these two words to myself multiple times a day, for about 3 weeks now in efforts to really embody them. Being present while I'm patient with other areas of my life. And it must be a balance, right? There's one of my favorite words (and my entire word for 2023!) I think I could write a novel just on life being all about balance. I personally am always trying to find that sweet spot. Most of the time, for almost everything, we need a little bit of both ends of the spectrum in order to find the best fit. Planning and spontaneity. Busyness and slowing down. Pouring out and pouring back in. Control and freedom. The list could continue on while getting more and more specific.
With balance in mind (& spring around the corner) I've been reflecting on a simple thought: seeds of a flower need time to bloom. Think about the stage of life you're in right now. Or what I better like to call, your season of life. I don't mean teenager, young adult, geriatric, etc. I mean the overall perspective, energetic feel and the weight of the "stuff" taking up space in your life and in your mind (i.e how you're spending your days). What seeds are you planting right. this. moment? What are you doing today to support your bigger, further away dreams, ambitions and goals? Maybe it's a season of life where you're wanting to make deeper connections, or you're getting your finances in check to buy a home, or perhaps it's a season of life to spend more time outdoors and less in the false reality of social media, or to pick up a new hobby and try something entirely new.
It's going to look different for everyone- and your season is YOUR season. It's real, it's valid. Beauty exists when we choose to see it- in the same way that darkness and negativity exists when we choose to see and cling to that. Planting your seeds and just waiting for them to bloom in order to feel fulfillment isn't it though. Being impatient and eager to live in that reality instead of the present is an unfortunate disservice to ourselves. But dang is it easy to fall into this.
Here's what's going on for me: In my current season of life, I'm spending way too much time making sure every single seed is planted, and planted at the most ideal time, and the perfect distance away from the other seeds. You better believe I'm giving those seeds the best, organic gud gud soil and watering them constantly. But then I'm just sitting my happy a$$ down in front of the dirt, waiting, watching intensely, but missing all that is continuing to go on around me. All eyes on the seeds. Missing the beautiful sunrises, the way the birds sing, the squirrels chasing each other on the power lines. I'm focusing a bit too much on these seeds, and living too far in the future.
But patience and presence. Patience and presence. I'm reminding myself to plant the seeds, do that work fully and intentionally, but then take a step back to let the rest happen organically, naturally. For most people, springtime is when we begin to see transformation. We're breaking out of our winter hibernation, we're (hopefully!) feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the world! It's truly incredible energy that gives us the kickstart and momentum we need. Transform this into focus and clarity, but don't forget to find the abundance that exists in front of you right now. We're in the middle of the magic right now- this is it! Not dwelling on the past, not feeling too eager for the future, just right where we need to be, here and now.
I'm rooting for each of you. See what I did there? hehe. Do the necessary work, but then sit back and truly enjoy the goodness surrounding you right now. Lots of love to each of you, whatever season of life you're in.
